Meet K. Viswanath’s Parents. K Viswanath (February 19, 1930 – February 2, 2023) was an Indian filmmaker, screenwriter, and actor best known for his work in Telugu cinema.

He has five National Film Awards, seven State Nandi Awards, ten South Filmfare Awards, and one Hindi Filmfare Award. He won the “Prix du public” at the 1981 Besançon Film Festival in France.

For his contributions to the arts, he earned the Raghupathi Venkaiah Prize from the state of Andhra Pradesh in 1992, as well as the civic honour Padma Shri. In 2017, he was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest film accolade.

Viswanath worked with Adurthi Subba Rao in his early career on National Award-winning movies like Mooga Manasulu (1964) and Doctor Chakravarty (1964).

The films Aatma Gowravam (1965), O Seeta Katha (1974), and Jeevana Jyothi (1975), which won state Nandi Awards and were shown at the Asian and African Film Festival in Tashkent, were all directed by Viswanath. He also wrote the screenplay for Sudigundalu (1968).

The legendary blockbusters Sankarabharanam (1979) and Sagara Sangamam (1983) by Viswanath were ranked among the top 100 Indian movies of all time by CNN-IBN.

His feature films Saptapadi and Sankarabharanam, both directed, won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration and Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, respectively.

The 8th International Film Festival of India, the Tashkent Film Festival, and the Moscow International Film Festival all hosted their premieres of Sankarabharanam in May 1980.

Viswanath was also awarded the Public Prize at the 1981 French Besançon Film Festival.
